Dylan Ahern is an artist who uses a wide variety of media and found objects to create sculptural abstractions. He often relies on process to dictate the eventual form of his works, favoring chance over precision. These process oriented modes of making, such as burning, melting and congealing, reflect the artists interest in disease, endurance, and becoming something else, entirely new and unfamiliar.
Ahern was born in Long Island, New York in 1993. He holds a BFA from the University of Hartford (2016) and an MFA from the Virginia Commonwealth University (2022). He’s participated in a range of group exhibitions and has exhibited work internationally in Mexico City in 2024. He has taught at the Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Richmond and is now based in Houston, Texas where he teaches sculpture at the University of Houston and the Kinder School for Visual and Performing Arts.
